Directed by John Carpenter | 1988

With Roddy Piper, Keith David, Meg Foster

The ultimate Reagan-era rebuttal, Carpenter’s sci-fi satire follows a drifter (Piper) who discovers that America is being controlled by yuppie aliens using advertising to spread subliminal messages to “OBEY”—the main inspiration for Shepard Fairey’s clothing line—“CONSUME,” and “CONFORM.” This anti-establishment classic boasts an infamously epic, nearly six-minute fight scene, as well as the immortal line: “I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass…and I’m all out of bubblegum.”
