Directed by Penny Marshall | 1992

With Tom Hanks, Geena Davis, Lori Petty

“There’s no crying in baseball!” Penny Marshall’s feel-good classic follows the fortunes of the real-life Rockford Peaches, an all-women’s professional baseball team formed during World War II. One of the few comedies of the 90s to focus on female camaraderie, A League of Their Own sheds light on a hitherto forgotten slice of feminist history with irresistible warmth and wit.

Radiolab's Molly Webster describes her first experience watching the film: “I remember the summer I saw this film—I spent much of the rest of that break outside, pretending to be a softball player, play-acting scenes, or just imagining I was a grown-up lady, with great friends, doing something exciting, somewhere. I could feel how these characters, based on real women, were part of something a bit bigger than themselves, and I wanted to get out into the world, have such wonderful, silly friends, and do something, too.”
