Basma Alsharif
- 9PM
Basma Alsharif has combined visual archaeology, documentary, and trance-inducing psychedelic flourishes in her artistic exploration of Palestine: its history, its current political situation, and the people who call it home, wherever they may reside. BOMB describes her work as “showing us that a place is not local, language slips, stories can’t be told, images lie, and that we’re humans beyond our politics.” This selection of short works showcases a range of themes recurrent in Alsharif’s practice, from the political to the metaphysical to her interrogation of the relationship between geographic space and cultural identity.
Program includes:
O, Persecuted (2014)
Deep Sleep (2014)
Home Movie Gaza (2013)
We Began By Measuring The Distance (2009)

A selection of short works by London artist Ed Atkins, who investigates the ways that HD video both facilitates and obstructs intimacy, particularly in its representation of the human figure.

This eight-artist collective creates work that reflects the confluence of nation-building rhetoric and corporate branding in the Gulf region.
