Directed by Buster Keaton, Edward Cline

Though Bresson’s love for Chaplin is well known, he also admired the work of Buster Keaton, whose deadpan “blankness” anticipates the minimalist performance style of Bresson’s actors. This program brings together three of The Great Stone Face’s best: Cops (1922), with Buster outrunning the entire LAPD; One Week (1920), in which the comedian tackles a DIY home design project from hell; and The High Sign (1921), wherein a sharp-shooting Keaton tangles with gangsters.
