Episode of the Sea

2014, 63min, DCP

In the now-landlocked Dutch fishing village of Urk, political, cultural, and environmental forces have conspired to upend ancestral traditions. Dutch documentary duo Lonnie van Brummelen and Siebren de Haan embarked on an intimate collaboration with the people of this town to capture its daily life. Shot in stunning, monochromatic 35mm, and featuring scenes performed by the documentary subjects, Episode of the Sea offers an unprecedented, painstakingly researched portrait of the customs, language, and religion that remain integral to this community.

View from the Acropolis

2012, 15min, 35mm

A snapshot of the hill in Turkey where the Pergamon Altar, considered to be one of the greatest surviving monuments from antiquity, existed before it was moved to Berlin.
