Directed by Don Weis | 1953

With Donald O’Connor, Debbie Reynolds, Una Merkel

A rarely screened MGM B-delight, Don Weis’s short and sweet New York musical re-teams the ever-buoyant Debbie Reynolds and Donald O’Connor after Singin’ in the Rain. She’s chorus girl Judy LeRoy (née Schneider)—currently starring as The Football in a gridiron stage-show—and he’s struggling photographer Melvin Hoover, attempting to woo her through Look magazine shoots. Featuring Technicolor visuals, a chase through Central Park, and rib-tickling supporting work, including Judy’s deadpan-genius kid sister, and Jim Baccus as Melvin’s cynical boss. One of critic Jonathan Rosenbaum’s 1000 Essential Films.
