Directed by Gene Kelly | 1956

With Gene Kelly, Tamara Toumanova, Igor Youskevitch

“An extraordinary choreographic picture.”
—The New York Times

Gene Kelly’s wordless, artily ambitious passion project tells three stories entirely through dance. Joined by some of the era’s greatest dancers, he portrays, variously, a tragic clown, a jealous boyfriend, and a sailor cavorting through a surreal, Hanna-Barbera-animated Middle East. This utterly singular work (that a baffled MGM sat on for four years before releasing) is a rare example of a big-budget, studio-financed experimental film.
