Directed by Rouben Mamoulian | 1957

With Fred Astaire, Cyd Charisse, Janis Paige

“An all-round refreshing show, blessed with a bright book, delicious music, and the dancing of Miss Charisse and Mr. Astaire.”
—The New York Times

Lubitsch’s classic Ninotchka gets a tune-up courtesy of Cole Porter and arch-aesthete Mamoulian. Astaire, in his final MGM musical, is the man about Paris who injects a little joie de vivre into the drab existence of a no-nonsense Russian diplomat (Charisse). He goes out with a bang in the witty “Ritz Roll and Rock” number, a wry acknowledgement that his brand of top hat-and-tails elegance has given way to hip-swiveling, Elvis-era rebellion.
