Directed by Charlie Chaplin | 1925

With Chaplin, Georgia Hale, Mack Swain

“The blend of slapstick and pathos is seamless... this is quintessential Charlie, and unmissable.”
—Dave Kehr, Chicago Reader

Chaplin delights in this silent comedy masterpiece in which the beloved Little Tramp ventures to the Klondike in search of gold. Bursting with ingenious, iconic set pieces—from the famous dinner roll dance to preparing a meal of boiled boot to the house-teetering-on-a-cliff climax—The Gold Rush is a hilarious and heartfelt classic.

Bresson was, too, a fan, and would cite an anecdote heard from Chaplin, "Chaplin said that the camera captures everything, and he recounted this story. He said that an excellent actress... was in the midst of performing a scene to perfection while the cameras rolled, and it was hot and there were flies in the studio. And while performing this scene to perfection she suddenly thought, 'What if this fly lands on my nose?' And the camera recorded that thought.
