Directed by Chantal Akerman | 1982

With Aurore Clément, Tchéky Karyo, Jan Decorte

This tragicomedy of human connection and alienation unfolds over the course of one night in Brussels. Largely forgoing dialogue in favor of richly evocative sound design, Akerman cuts back and forth between dozens of couples in the midst of romantic encounters, reconciliations, and break-ups. The result is this funny, poignant portrait of desire in all its forms, set against the backdrop Akerman’s beautifully inky, Edward Hopper-esque night-world.
