Created and Written by Britta Thie
Directed by Britta Thie & Julia H. Burlingham

In this six-part, semi-autobiographical web series by German artist Britta Thie, three young women make their way through a modern-day Berlin colonized by hipster anglophone artists. Utilizing the aesthetics of soap opera and reality TV, this poignant caricature of the city’s creative class follows the trio as they encounter their privileged peers, retreat into nostalgia for the pre-digital world of their youth, and win modest victories as emerging artists. Translantics, which was commissioned by Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt for a project to showcase works “that would not be possible without the invention of the Internet and digital technologies,” explores language and art in the Internet age in an earnest, self-effacing tone reminiscent of Lena Dunham.
