“Smith has developed a lyrical visual practice, weaving in and out of the independent film world and occasionally gracing the art world with breathtaking film installations that upend traditional forms of narrative filmmaking.”
—BOMB

Working between experimental and traditional narrative forms, Cauleen Smith bridges the neorealism of the LA Rebellion with the avant-garde traditions of mid-20th century structuralist film. This program includes two films shot in post-Katrina New Orleans, H-E-L-L-O and The Fullness of Time, which views the landscape through the lens of science fiction; Entitled, a correspondence with historical still life painters; and Crow Requiem, which connects the history of the mythological bird with the history of violence against people of color in the US.
