Experimental video artist Marco Brambilla (whose later work includes the extravagant promo for Kanye West’s “Power”) made an unlikely venture into feature film with this uproarious sci-fi action fable. Snipes plays peroxide-haired villain Simon Phoenix, who escapes prison to wreak havoc on a dystopian future LA. Can hardened cop John Spartan (Stallone, in the title role) stop him?
