Directed by Jean-Luc Godard | 2010

With Catherine Tanvier, Christian Sinniger, Jean-Marc Stehlé.

Godard’s first film shot entirely in HD video is a gorgeous, elusive, and unclassifiable late-career riddle—doubly mysterious because it is subtitled in what the director calls “Navajo English.” Set aboard a gaudy Mediterranean cruise ship (with none other than Patti Smith among its passengers), Film Socialisme is a dense, provocative meditation on Europe’s failings, the dying dream of socialism, and the colors and textures of the digital format.
