Making Waves: New Romanian Cinema
New York’s longstanding Romanian film festival comes to BAMcinématek. Now in its 12th year, Making Waves brings together the best of the fresh voices, which for over a decade have included some of the most vital and profound films to emerge from Eastern Europe. This year’s highlights include a Balkan Coen-esque thriller, a zany social comedy, and a quiet backwater drama—plus a spotlight on Anca Damian, one of the most compelling Romanian directors working today who has forged a singular path with her visually arresting documentary, narrative, and animation hybrids.
The 12th edition of Making Waves is co-presented by the Romanian Film Initiative and BAMcinématek. Leading support is provided by The Trust for Mutual Understanding, the Filmmakers Union of Romania, and Blue Heron Foundation.
