Directed by Spike Lee | 1992
With Denzel Washington, Angela Bassett, Delroy Lindo, Spike Lee
BAMcinématek is proud to present a 25th anniversary screening of Spike Lee’s classic film, based on the iconic activist and orator's 1965 autobiography (co-written with Roots author Alex Haley.) Malcolm X follows its subject's conversion from street hustler to fiery street-corner speaker and nationally recognized figure, through his break with the Black Muslims and journey to Mecca, which led to profound changes in his perceptions of racism and Islam. In one of the great screen performances of the 1990s, Denzel Washington embodies Malcolm with conviction, force, and dignity.
