The Missing Picture
- 7PM
The Missing Picture is the realization of Cambodian filmmaker Rithy Panh’s personal quest to reimagine his childhood. Using beautifully detailed clay figurines and elaborate dioramas, he pieces together the missing images from his memory of the period between 1975 and 1979, a time when the Khmer Rouge ruled over Cambodia and the only recorded artifacts that remain are propaganda footage. Told through a narrator’s voice, Panh poetically and poignantly recalls his family and friends, both before and after the regime’s rule. This critically acclaimed film, which was nominated for an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, captures a historical moment that might never have been told if not for Panh’s innovative approach to storytelling.
