Directed by Jean-Luc Godard | 1962

With Anna Karina, Sady Rebbot, André S. Labarthe

Over the course of 12 episodes, a Parisian woman goes from housewife to shopgirl to prostitute. A star vehicle for Godard’s then-wife, the beguiling Anna Karina, Vivre sa vie is one of the director’s most profound works, a provocative investigation of art, sex, and capitalism. In perhaps its most transcendent scene, a tear-stained Karina communes with Dreyer’s The Passion of Joan of Arc in a darkened movie theater.
