Directed by Yvonne Rainer | 1974

Choreographer turned filmmaker Yvonne Rainer proposed a revolutionary new cinematic language rooted in dance, performance art, autobiography, and a radical intersectional feminism. In this avant-garde masterpiece, she fuses the conventions of soap opera and Hollywood melodrama with a minimalist, post-structuralist syntax to explore dissatisfaction within a sexual relationship. The cinematography is by the great Babette Mangolte just before she began her history-making partnership with Chantal Akerman.
