Directed by Radu Jude | 2018

With Ioana Iacob, Alexandru Dabija, Alex Bogdan

Romania’s submission for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, Jude's latest is an explosive, audacious satire in which a crusading theater director staging a reenactment of one of the darkest chapters in Romanian history—the massacre of tens of thousands of Jews in 1941—finds herself facing mounting pressure from the government, her cast, and crew to abandon the project. Blending black humor, Godardian agitprop, and wide-ranging references to art and philosophy, Jude poses a provocative question: how do we confront a past that many would prefer stay buried?

Post-screening Discussion
With writers Andrei Codrescu, Andrei Crăciun and Carmen Firan on the ways in which fiction translates historical reality and can manipulate or reveal it, moderated by Corina Șuteu.
