Directed by Spike Lee | 1999

With John Leguizamo, Adrien Brody, Mira Sorvino

Screening almost 41 years to the day after The Great New York City Blackout of 1977, when a killer named Son of Sam gripped the city in fear, Lee’s rich, sweltering work explores how paranoia infects a community, creating a lynch mob mentality that leads to finger pointing at outsiders and misfits. It is relatively rare for major black directors to make films about white ethnic milieus, which makes this thrilling drama all the more fascinating.
