In this lo-fi treasure, a mute, black alien (Morton) crash-lands in Harlem, where he encounters both suspicion and, gradually, acceptance (thanks in part to his telekinetic powers which are, as it turns out, helpful in repairing video games). Built around a sensitive, Keaton-esque performance from Joe Morton, John Sayles’ offbeat indie balances wry comedy with a heartfelt political consciousness.
