Bim Adewunmi presents Gentlemen Prefer Blondes
- 7PM
This monthly series brings a prominent artistic or cultural figure to BAM to discuss the film that inspired their passion for cinema, followed by a screening of the film.
Dorothy (Russell) is sailing to Europe with her best friend Lorelei (Monroe), whose fiancée promises her a line of credit in Paris—so long as she stays faithful en route. No matter Lorelei’s gold-digging tendencies and Dorothy’s yearning for a starving artist, the “intense Sapphic appeal” (Melissa Anderson, Artforum) between these two showgirls is where the real sparks fly. Maybe diamonds are a girl’s best friend; maybe a girl’s best friend is her lover. Either way, men count for little when Russell and Monroe share the screen.
Inspired by the Screen Epiphanies series at London's BFI Southbank
