Directed by Claire Denis | 1990

Produced for the French television series Cinéma, de notre temps, this innovative documentary finds Denis stretching the boundaries of the form in an illuminating profile of New Wave titan Jacques Rivette. Capturing the filmmaker and his collaborators (including Bulle Ogier) in conversation with legendary film critic Serge Daney, Denis displays a unique sensitivity to the relationship between people and environment—forgoing a traditional talking heads approach in favor of a open-air one, shot right on the streets of Paris.
