Directed by Lourdes Portillo | 1989

Pioneering Chicana filmmaker Lourdes Portillo travels from her birthplace in Mexico to San Francisco, where she now lives, to document the different ways the Day of the Dead is celebrated in both places. Awash in gorgeous images bursting with color and life, La ofrenda offers a probing, playful perspective on Chicanx identity, cultural displacement, and the Mexican relationship to death.
