A Romanian vampire makes her way through downtown New York looking for a fresh start in Michael Almereyda’s stylishly idiosyncratic blend of poetic horror and deadpan comedy. Produced by David Lynch (who makes a cameo appearance), the film’s dreamy-offbeat aura is enhanced by a soundtrack that features My Bloody Valentine and Portishead, a droll turn by Peter Fonda as Van Helsing, and lustrous black-and-white cinematography, shot in part on a Pixelvision toy camera.
