The title is short for Quetzalcoatl, the mythical winged serpent of Aztec lore which has taken up residence in the spire of the Chrysler Building and is terrorizing unsuspecting Manhattanites—and only a shifty small-time crook (played with bonkers bravura by a totally unhinged Michael Moriarty) knows where the monster is. Cult legend Larry Cohen’s homage to the Ray Harryhausen-style creature-feature blends awesomely old-school stop-motion effects with pungent 1980s New York atmosphere.
