The Last Black Man in San Francisco
- 7PM
Jimmie Fails dreams of reclaiming the Victorian home his grandfather built in the heart of San Francisco. As he struggles to reconnect with his family and community in a rapidly changing city, his hopes blind him to the reality of his situation. Adapted from Fails’ own real-life experience by longtime friend and collaborator Joe Talbot, this wistful odyssey is a funny, poignant, and sweeping story of hometowns and how they’re made—and kept alive—by the people who love them.
This screening is presented in cooperation with The Racial Imaginary Institute, an Interdisciplinary Cultural Laboratory based on the premise that race is one of the prime ways history lives in us.
Appearances by filmmaker Joe Talbot and actors Jimmie Fails, Tichina Arnold, Rob Morgan, and Danny Glover, moderated by Darnell Moore
