Co-written by New Wave icon Anne Wiazemsky, this swooning study of adolescent angst is something of a spiritual precursor to Nenette and Boni, with which it shares stars Alice Houri, Grégoire Colin, and Vincent Gallo. Like that film, it’s a study of sibling relationships and teenage sexuality, set in 1960s suburbia and set to a period soundtrack that includes the Yardbirds, Otis Redding, and Nico.
Dir. Sébastien Lifshitz
1996, 50min
“I’m interested in the slice of humanity that surrounds a monster.” So declares Denis in this enlightening interview, in which she discusses her career, filmmaking philosophy, and influences, ranging from Jean Renoir to Frantz Fanon.
