Film Mayor

Dec 11, 2020—Jan 14, 2021

Dir. David Osit | 89min, 2020

Richly detailed and surprisingly humorous, this real-life political saga follows the Christian mayor of the Palestinian city of Ramallah to offer a portrait of dignity amidst the madness of occupation.

A real-life political saga following Musa Hadid, the Christian mayor of the Palestinian city of Ramallah, located in the central West Bank. Surrounded by Israeli settlements and soldiers, most people in Ramallah will never travel more than a few miles outside the city, which is why Mayor Hadid is determined to make it a beautiful and dignified place to live. His immediate goals: repave the sidewalks, attract more tourism, and plan the city’s Christmas celebrations. His ultimate mission: end the occupation of Palestine.

Rich with detailed observation and a surprising amount of humor, Mayor offers a portrait of dignity amidst the madness and absurdity of occupation while asking: how do you run a city when you don’t have a country?
