Woman in the Dunes
- 4:45PM
Hiroshi Teshigahara’s startlingly modernist puzzle film concerns an amateur insect enthusiast who travels to a barren desert in search of a rare beetle—and finds himself trapped at the bottom of a dune, unable to leave, with an enigmatic woman. From this Kafkaesque premise emerges an erotically charged tale of sex and sand, shot in shimmering, silvery monochrome and set to a shattering avant-garde score by the great Toru Takemitsu.
