Park Chan-wook’s jaw-dropping instant classic is one of the most daring and unforgettable revenge thrillers ever made. After being held in captivity by an unseen tormentor for fifteen years, businessman Oh Dae-su is mysteriously released…only to find that his nightmare is far from over. Swinging between operatic surrealism and gut-punching brutality, Oldboy goes deliriously, dementedly over-the-top and never looks back.
This monthly series brings a prominent artistic or cultural figure to BAM to discuss the film that inspired their passion for cinema, followed by a screening of the film.
Inspired by the Screen Epiphanies series at London's BFI Southbank
Playwright, director, and filmmaker Young Jean Lee has been called “the most adventurous downtown playwright of her generation” by The New York Times. In 2018, her acclaimed play Straight White Men transferred to Broadway, making her the first Asian-American woman to have a play produced on Broadway. Her short films have been presented at Sundance Film Festival, the Locarno International Film Festival, and BAMcinemaFest, and she is currently working with Cinereach on a horror film entitled Mistress Hand.
