Dir. Agnieszka Holland | 2019, 119min
With James Norton, Vanessa Kirby, Peter Sarsgaard
Based on a true story that helped inspire George Orwell’s Animal Farm, Agnieszka Holland’s biographical thriller sees Hitler’s rise to power and Stalin’s Soviet propaganda machine pushing their “utopia” to the Western world. An ambitious young journalist, Gareth Jones (Norton), travels to Moscow to uncover the truth behind the propaganda, where he gets a tip that could expose an international conspiracy—and cost him and his informant their lives.

With touches of magical realism and subtle humor, Poland’s Oscar submission about a mysterious stranger who disrupts a wealthy community is a genre-defying meditation on class, immigration, and global warming.

A young woman goes overseas to reclaim her estranged father’s body in this darkly funny coming-of-age drama that explores the complexity of family bonds and economic emigration across Europe.

This deeply personal, hand-drawn animated film—winner of the Grand Prize for Feature Animation at the Ottawa International Animation Festival—conjures a flood of emotions through surreal and striking images.
