Directed by Pedro Almodóvar | 2021

With Penélope Cruz, Aitana Sánchez-Gijón, Milena Smit

“Almodóvar executes a cinematic hat trick, combining cinematic artistry, extravagant entertainment and emotional seriousness with finesse”
—The Washington Post

Pedro Almodóvar hones in on two women in a moment of profound transformation in this elegant and bracing drama, featuring a standout performance from his longtime collaborator Penélope Cruz. Janis and Ana meet in a hospital room where they are waiting to give birth. Both are single and became pregnant by accident. While the middle aged Janis is exuberant, Ana, an adolescent, is scared, remorseful, and traumatized. As they drift like sleepwalkers along the hospital corridors, Janis tries to encourage Ana, and the few words they exchange create a link between them that develops, complicates, and changes their lives in a decisive way.
