Set in an industrial Brazilian city surrounded by the Amazon rainforest, this hypnotic and visually lush drama follows Justino, a middle-aged member of the indigenous Desana people, who works at the cargo port and lives with his daughter on the outskirts of town. After learning that she plans to move away for school, Justino is overcome by a strange fever, and a mysterious creature begins following him during this night. Then the tedious routine of the harbor is broken by the arrival of a new guard, and a visit from his brother reminds Justino of his former life in the forest. Caught between the oppression of the city and the distance of his native village, Justino can no longer endure an existence without a sense of place.
