Directed by Shunji Iwai | 2001

With Hayato Ichihara, Shûgo Oshinari, Ayumi Itô

In the Japanese countryside, an eighth grader bullied by his former friend finds relief in the voice of Lily Chou-Chou, a Björk-like pop star. Yuichi is only able to be his true self while on the fan site “LilyPhilia,” which he manages, finding solace from an alienating society in Lily’s charisma and dreamy music. Pre-dating social media fan communities, this prescient indie drama offers a poignant take on adolescent heartbreak and the shifting, ambiguous nature of identity online.
