Cicely Tyson’s rarely seen screen debut is a story of sunken treasure, voodoo rites, and betrayal. Led by Ethel Waters—who also graces the film with a song—the predominantly Black cast also includes Bond villain and Met Opera Ballet principal dancer Geoffrey Holder in his first film appearance. The dramatic story of a shrimp boat that stumbles across hidden booty, Carib Gold is vividly populated by local musicians and extras and shot almost entirely on location in Key West, including underwater.
