Forever a Woman
- 2PM
Considered to be her most feminist and personal work, this is the third film directed by the legendary Japanese actress-turned-director Kinuyo Tanaka. Recently restored, Forever a Woman is based on the life of Fumiko Nakajo, an ill-fated female tanka poet whose life was brought to a premature end by breast cancer. Yumeji Tsukioka stars as the poet, separated from her son and forced to confront her mortality, yet committed to one final love affair. A study of sexual desire and the ticking clock of life, screenwriter Sumie Tanaka rounds out this female creative team—furthering Tanaka’s goal of creating “films for women, by women.”
