Juice 30th Anniversary Screening
- 7PM
A spiral of violence engulfs a group of friends growing up in Harlem in this complex, neo-noir moral drama from Ernest Dickerson, making his directing debut after working as cinematographer on iconic films by Spike Lee and John Sayles. Featuring an electrifying performance from Tupac (in his first major film role) as a wannabe gangster who develops a taste for killing, Juice is one of the great hip-hop films of the 90s, with a soundtrack of classic cuts from Naughty By Nature, Eric B. & Rakim, Too Short, and Cypress Hill, and a score by the vanguard production team Bomb Squad.
Post-screening discussion with BAM Guest Curator-at-Large Hanif Abdurraqib, actor Kahlil Kane, and Keith Shocklee of The Bomb Squad.
This 30th Anniversary screening of Juice is part of Music at BAM Curated by Hanif Abdurraqib.

Music at BAM Curated by Hanif Abdurraqib
In a series of concerts curated by Hanif Abdurraqib, artists-as-storytellers share globally inspired, genre-defying, life-giving music. Abdurraqib—a poet, essayist, and cultural critic from Columbus, Ohio—is a 2021 MacArthur “genius” and National Book Award finalist for his collection A Little Devil in America: Notes in Praise of Black Performance. Programmed for BAM venues both intimate and soaring, these live music experiences offer beautiful grounding for uncertain times. We are thrilled to welcome you back to BAM!
