Nerve
- 7PM
In this forward-thinking thriller, an industrious high schooler is pressured by friends to join Nerve, a popular online game that challenges players to accept a series of dares. When the adrenaline-fueled competition requires her to perform increasingly dangerous stunts, the risks of online social conformity and mob mentality become dizzyingly clear. As the game takes a sinister turn, the film realizes the nightmares of capitalism hiding behind the faux-progressivism of the then-nascent streaming culture and gig economy. With a dystopian, high-stakes finale, Nerve hangs on an edge between suspense and social commentary.
