Pyaasa
- 7PM
Widely considered one of the best films in Indian cinematic history, Bollywood Golden Age pioneer Guru Dutt directs, writes, and stars in this Hindi drama that follows Vijay, a poor poet who is ostracized for writing societal critiques instead of fanciful romances. After a dead man is found wearing Vijay’s jacket, his work finally gets the prestige he craved. When Vijay reappears—very much alive—he discovers that his publisher has been pulling the strings and he no longer knows who he can trust. A social realist counterpart of Bollywood extravaganzas, Pyaasa is continually applauded for its alluring cinematography and seamlessly interwoven lyrics.
