Directed by David Cronenberg | 1983

With James Woods, Debbie Harry, Sonja Smits

This hugely influential 1983 sci-fi body horror film stars James Woods and Debbie Harry in a story about the merging of human flesh and technology. Max (Woods), the CEO of a Toronto cable TV station desperate for new programming to attract viewers, discovers a broadcast signal featuring graphic violence and torture and sees a potential hit. When his girlfriend (Harry) auditions for the show and never returns, Max investigates the truth behind it. Losing touch with reality, he becomes caught up in the hallucinatory, mind-controlling, body-destroying television world, prefiguring the darker corners of the internet and the melding of human psyche and technology that would come to define online life.
