Directed by Steven Spielberg | 2021

With Ansel Elgort, Rachel Zegler, Ariana DeBose, Rita Moreno

“Spielberg’s panache and command are evident in every nook of this handsome film.”
—The New Yorker

Steven Spielberg crafts and Tony Kushner writes this brilliant new vision of the beloved American musical. Featuring an Oscar-winning performance from Ariana DeBose as Anita, additional back story for Tony (Elgort) and Maria (Zegler), and an added character in Valentina (Moreno), this updated telling honors the original while highlighting the complex dynamics of race and class. Spielberg beautifully captures the depth of Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim’s songs, while adding to the emotional intensity by putting his signature imprint on the visual storytelling.
