Growing up in a mobile home park for seniors bordering the forest between Fresno and Yosemite, media artist Shana Moulton formed a strong connection to David Lynch’s work. Surrounded by a natural world that seemed susceptible to the influences of spirits both twisted and benevolent, Twin Peaks resonated with her own experiences and sparked the formative idea that she, too, could be an artist. Combining wry humor with a low-tech, pop sensibility, Whispering Pines takes inspiration from Lynch, her childhood home, and a hemorrhoid pillow dress to create an uncanny video soap opera starring Moulton’s own alter-ego.
