Party Girl
Parker Posey delivered one of her most beloved performances—and ascended her throne as “Queen of the Indies”—in this influential cult classic by writer-director Daisy von Scherler Mayer. Before Carrie Bradshaw, there was Posey’s Mary, a social butterfly and doyenne of the downtown nightlife scene. By day, she lacks ambition, employment, and enough funds to cover rent. But when her godmother (Sasha von Scherler) gets her a job at a local library, Mary unexpectedly finds her calling—and romance with a sweet falafel vendor (Omar Townsend). Featuring appearances by everyone from Lady Bunny to Liev Schreiber, Party Girl is a delightful time capsule of pre-gentrification Lower Manhattan and a sparkling comedy made all the more luminous by Posey’s timeless star power.
