Sunu Thiossane: Youth Development Agency presents the New York premier of it's debut film production, a short film about social and economic inequality in Dakar, Senegal. Larabilaran: Le Talibé Et Moi chronicles the life of a talibé, a student of the Qur'an, named Seydina who negotiates his identityand relationship with the young, well-educated, and privileged Mariama. The film is an expression of Sunu Thiossane’s commitment to fostering compassion and understanding, while highlighting the major issue of forced begging in Senegal.

The screening is followed by a Q&A with the writer-director, executive producer, and a member of the film crew; a student performance; and a brief introduction to the work of Sunu Thiossane. Afterwards, join us for a party on the BAM Fisher rooftop, with food provided by Senegalese restaurant Joloff.

Larabilaran: Le Talibé Et Moi is the culminating project of the 2016 Sunu Thiossane Summer Camp in Dakar and features the work of teaching artists and camp participants. All proceeds from the evening go directly towards the operation of Sunu Thiossane's upcoming Art and English Immersion Summer Camp. This summer will be the camp's fifth year of operation; please help us make this incredible program possible!
