Founded in 2006 by composer and trumpet player Brian Carpenter, the nine-member Ghost Train Orchestra evokes the jazz orchestras that thrived in 1920s and 30s Harlem and Chicago under bandleaders like Fletcher Henderson and Don Redman. The critically acclaimed throwback group has played the Kennedy Center and New York’s Museum of Modern Art and topped the Billboard charts, thanks to “sharp arrangements [that] retain the contrapuntal flash, sweet voicings, and fiery rhythms of the original era” (Downbeat Magazine).
