Led by the restlessly imaginative guitarist Ben Tyree, BT3 plays what it calls “sci-fi jazz funk fusion,” which marries head-bobbing beats with melodic incursions into the outer reaches of jazz. The group’s debut album, re:Vision—recently voted Best Instrumental Album in the 11th Independent Music Awards Vox Pop Poll—features keyboardist John Medeski (Medeski, Martin, and Wood) and DJ Logic, which should give listeners an idea of just how seriously this talented trio takes the groove.
