This band of intrepid female string players is dedicated to promoting the work of female composers in jazz, world music, and beyond. Frontwoman and cellist Nioka Workman has performed with everyone from Kanye West and Jay-Z to Alvin Ailey American Dance Company and the Joffrey Ballet. Her Firey String Sistas! project furthers that eclecticism while elevating the acoustic string band to sumptuous new heights.
