John Forté and Friends
- 9:30PM
A true musical multi-hyphenate, John Forté is a classically trained violinist, record executive, and Grammy-nominated solo artist who has contributed his songwriting and production talents to The Fugees, Carly Simon, Talib Kweli, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and many others. Acclaimed for his versatility and innovative spirit, he is currently recording a new album and writing a memoir to be published by Simon and Schuster.
This live performance follows the BAMcinématek screening of The Russian Winter, a film documenting Forté’s tour of Russia in 2011, and the opening night film of the TransCultural Express series Russian Cinema Now. He will be joined by international hip-hop artist SunSay and other musicians Forté collaborated with on his 2011 tour.

A producer for the legendary 1990s hip-hop outfit the Fugees, John Forté reflects on music, his time in prison for a drug conviction, and second chances during a unique tour through Russia.

This series of contemporary Russian films features acclaimed work by masters Alexander Sokurov and Sergei Loznitsa. Several films will be followed by Q&As.

BAM partners with the Mikhail Prokhorov Fund for a series of multidisciplinary events promoting cultural exchange between American and Russian artists and audiences.
